Jexzebel Lies: "Actually, Birth Control’s Pretty Expensive" - oh, not so much

    xhttp://jezebel.com/5885368/actually-birth-controls-pretty-expensive

First, many parts of the article discuss how expensive birth control is without insurance - but the whole controversy regarding the .gov has been only regarding women with insurance from religious institutions.

    Moving on from there:

Three fourths of women of reproductive age have private insurance, but even with private insurance, women often have to shoulder more of the cost of birth control than do plan participants with other prescriptions, which can run upwards of $50 per month, depending on the method.
    ($50/month) / (28days/month) = $1.78 per day (using the shortest possible month).

How could any women be too stupid to spend $1.78 a day to not get pregnant?

No no... it's not that they're too stupid to spend $1.78 a day to not get pregnant...

It's that when you're spending an average of $12.00 per day on shoes and $30.00 per day on toilet paper, birth control don't fit into the fucking budget.

There's priorities, and then there's priorities....

Shoes and toilet paper... shoes and toilet paper...

Speaking of women and toilet paper:

They once made a Chuck Norris toilet paper, but it wouldn't take shit from anybody.

Pills are cheaper, less stressful, and less time constraining than an abortion. How's that?

If they ever release an effective male birth control pill, it will be THE biggest pharamaceutical moneymaker the world has ever known. I predict bigger than "the pill" and viagra (et al.), combined.

When you talk about women not being able to afford birth control I think about females who make less than $30,000 a year, at the very most.

The high cost of birth control has prompted 25% of women who make less than $75,000 per year to put off going to the doctor. About 29% of women in the same income range have used their birth control method incorrectly in an attempt to try to make it last longer. And half of women haven't used their method as directed because it's cost-prohibitive.
$75,000?! If you make that much money and you can't put aside $600 for not getting knocked up... Where the fuck does the money go? Where the fuck does it go?!

And sterilization costs around $6,000 without insurance.
That's a lifetime investment. After ten years you are saving money.

It's your body, your choice, your problem.

yeah lol. They will spend $5 a day on a frozen coffee but they won't spend under two dollars on safe and effective birth control.

The real meaning of all this is that women are looking for more reasons to explain away the bastard children that won't go away. They got pregnant on purpose and now it's time to blame anything.

Birth control could cost 2 cents a year and they would still bitch that it's not fair they have to pay. In fact women who are insured and get the pill at no cost bitch that I makes them feel fat and moody or some stupid bullshit.

I think we should stop trying to understand crazy on this forum. I don't want to understand how these nut jobs think because I don't want to think crazy...

If it were run of the mill coffee, I'd say it was caffeine addiction. I've got a pretty good jones for caffeine myself.

But if it's the expensive, sugar-laden stuff that takes 10 minutes to say the order, that's something altogether different and more stupid.

I'll state my opinion and I know it won't be popular but here it goes. Viagra is covered by insurance, so why not birth control? You can get free condoms from virtually any clinic so no big deal. Yeah I don't think we should be paying shit out for women and let them get a free ride, but children are FAR more expensive than $50 a month. There are (a soon to be majority at this rate) women out there who don't even know who the father of their child is, even after going through 30+ guys. Do you really want the state to help raise another criminal, support another slut single mom all on taxpayer dollars? At some point we're just going to have to go for the best/cheapest option, which in this case is free birth control.

Don't forget outside of all other costs, education up to and including high school costs around $350 thousand in the US alone (per kid), so that + everything else for every bastard child, considering the fact that most people earn around $2 million in their lifetimes, I would think avoiding unnecessary child births would be a good thing.

Good point, actually. Paying for people not to reproduce doesn't sound that bad. I still don't want to pay for abortions, though.

The issue is: should religious institutions be compelled to pay for the insurance to do this? I'd bet the organizations whose insurance plans don't cover contraception are probably not covering Viagra either.

As a taxpayer, I agree with you that everybody should be able to get contraceptives. As a taxpayer, I'd be willing to pay for that. Hell, they should mandatory for a lot of people.

But that's a whole different thing than fed.gov telling religious institutions that they must pay. That is a wholly improper use of the power of the State.

Viagra is treating erectile disfunction. The difference is that without viagra, men with ED cannot perform. With or without birth control, a woman can still have sex, or choose not to. It's really not the same problem at all, one is about contraceptives, the other is about a medical problem.
